Garage Drywall & Fire-Rated Installation

Professional garage drywall installation, repair, and finishing, including fire-rated drywall assemblies where required. Patch Pros handles garage walls and ceilings from installation through the finished surface.
Garage drywall has different considerations than drywall in a typical bedroom or living space, particularly in attached garages where the wall or ceiling may be part of a required fire-resistance or separation assembly. Patch Pros provides professional garage drywall installation, repair, replacement, taping, and finishing throughout Denver and the surrounding metro area. With more than 20 years of professional drywall finishing experience, we can take garage drywall projects from exposed framing or damaged drywall through the finished surface. Our garage drywall services include: • New garage drywall installation • Garage drywall repair and replacement • Garage walls and ceilings • Attached and detached garages • Fire-rated drywall installation where required • 5/8-inch drywall installation when specified for the assembly • Taping and joint finishing • Finishing previously hung garage drywall • Repairing holes, cracks, and damaged sections • Drywall replacement after plumbing or electrical work • Skim coating and surface correction • Texture matching and new texture application Does Garage Drywall Need to Be Fire-Rated? It depends on the garage, its relationship to the home, and the applicable building requirements. Attached garages can have specific requirements for the walls and ceilings separating the garage from living areas. The required drywall thickness, type, fastening, joints, penetrations, and overall assembly can vary depending on the construction and location. That’s why we don’t simply assume that every garage requires the exact same drywall assembly. When a specific fire-resistant assembly is required, the entire assembly matters—not simply buying a sheet of drywall labeled fire-resistant. The materials need to be installed and finished appropriately for the particular application and applicable requirements. 5/8-Inch Drywall in Garages Many garage projects involve 5/8-inch drywall, including Type X gypsum board in applications where it is specified. This material is thicker and heavier than standard 1/2-inch drywall, which affects handling, cutting, installation, and especially overhead ceiling work. We’ll evaluate the project and determine what material is appropriate rather than automatically installing the same drywall everywhere. Garage Ceiling Drywall Garage ceilings can be some of the more physically demanding areas to drywall because full sheets need to be properly positioned and secured overhead. Ceiling drywall also needs adequate framing and support. If existing garage ceiling drywall is sagging, cracked, loose, or damaged, we’ll evaluate whether it can be properly resecured and repaired or whether sections need to be removed and replaced. As with any ceiling repair, simply covering a crack with joint compound doesn’t correct drywall that’s moving underneath the finished surface. Does Garage Drywall Have to Be Completely Finished? The level of finishing depends on the project and the finished appearance you’re looking for, as well as any applicable requirements for the assembly. Some homeowners simply want an unfinished garage properly drywalled and finished to create a clean, functional space. Others want their garage to look much more like an interior room, complete with finished walls, texture, primer, and paint. Patch Pros can provide the drywall finishing necessary for the project, including taping, joint compound, sanding, skim coating, and texture. If another contractor has already installed the drywall, we can also evaluate the existing installation and provide finishing services. Repairing Existing Garage Drywall You don’t need to be remodeling the entire garage to call Patch Pros. We also repair existing garage drywall damaged by impacts, storage equipment, plumbing or electrical work, moisture, previous repairs, cracks, and other common problems. Depending on the condition of the drywall, we may be able to repair the existing material or remove and replace the damaged section. If the damaged area is part of a required garage separation assembly, we’ll take that into consideration when evaluating the appropriate repair. Can You Finish an Entire Unfinished Garage? Yes. If your garage has exposed framing or partially installed drywall, Patch Pros can evaluate what remains to complete the drywall portion of the space. Depending on the project, that can include installing drywall on walls and ceilings, finishing joints and fasteners, addressing corners and transitions, and preparing the finished surface for texture, primer, or paint. We can also finish drywall that has already been hung if the existing installation is suitable for finishing. Garage Drywall for Remodels and Upgrades Finishing a garage can dramatically change how the space looks and feels. Homeowners use garages for much more than parking vehicles. A properly finished garage can create a cleaner environment for storage, workshops, home gyms, hobby areas, and other uses while maintaining the appropriate separation from the home where required. Whether you’re repairing one damaged section or finishing an entire garage, we’ll evaluate the project based on what the space actually requires. Professional Garage Drywall Installation in Denver Patch Pros provides professional garage drywall installation, repair, and finishing throughout Denver and the surrounding metro area, including fire-rated drywall assemblies where applicable. Whether you need damaged garage drywall replaced, an unfinished garage completed, a ceiling repaired, or an existing installation taped and finished, we’ll explain what the project requires and provide options based on the finished result you’re looking for. Need a garage drywall estimate? Send us photos showing the walls and ceilings, approximate garage dimensions, and let us know whether drywall is already installed or the framing is currently exposed. For larger garage projects, Patch Pros provides free on-site estimates so we can evaluate the space, take measurements, and determine the appropriate scope of work.
